Non-comparative Clinical Study of Tiroxin in Orthopaedic Field



Abstract
Tiroxin is of interest for their broad spectra of antibacterial action, their good distribution volume and their excellent bioavailability. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tiroxin in the treatment of orthopaedic infection, a clinical trial was performed in 20 patient.
The results were as follows
1. In 20 patients with orthopaedic infection, the result were excellent and good in 19 patients (95%)
2. In bacteriologic eradication, 8 cases out of 9 cases of Stap. aureus, 5 cases out of 7 cases of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, all 3 cases of Enterococcus were eradicated, but 1 case of Stap. marcescens was persistent. thus total eradication rate was 80%.
3. During treatment, 3 patients showed adverse reaction, but adverse reaction were not severe enough to stop the treatment.
There were no deleterious effect on peripheral blood count, liver and renal function.
The results demonstrated that the Tiroxin is an effective and safe antibiotics in the treatment of orthopaedic infection.
